  What is SMART test ? why it matters? CONTEXT--- On Monday, India successfully conducted the flight of a Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo(SMART) system developed by the DRDO. WHAT IS SMART SYSTEM? The SMART system comprises a mechanism by which the torpedo is launched from a supersonic missile system with modification that would take the torpedo to a far longer range than its own. For eg- A torpedo with a range of few kilometer can be sent a distance of around 1000km by the missile system from where the torpedo is launched. The system also gives flexibility in terms of missile system's launch platform. Why it is important for India? It is a game-changing technology demonstration in anti-submarine warfare. It become more important in context of growing Chinese influence in Indian Ocean Region.
